Babies may have HSV, but very rarely. You shouldn't panic if you have its symptoms and want to deliver a baby. Probably the pictures won't damage your child. In spite of this assumption, pregnant women should consult with a doctor. Because this illness isn't dangerous if women got it before fetation, but if the pictures happened almost before delivery, there is a place for unrest. Babies get neonatal HSV.

Herpes in babies' contagion

Fetus and newborn can get herpes symptoms during delivery, when mother has sores on her maternal passages. It happens in 75-80% cases. But HSV can also be transmitted to babies by people with skin manifestations of HSV who take care of them; or if they are kissed by individuals that have sores pictures and hasn't washed hands before embracing the infant.

Sometimes women transmit the disease through placenta, - only when they got it during pregnancy.

Such disease can be met rarely. In past decades doctors couldn't diagnose these symptoms at once, because often there are no skin eruptions or sores. Treatment was started only after serious damages. At the present, pictures of this disease have become more familiar to scientists. Herpes incubation period

Localized form declares itself in solitary or multiple blisters on different parts of the body without symptoms of inflammation. Mostly they appear on the 5th-14th day of life and heal during 10-14 days. Herpes eye lesions are evident in the form of keratoconjunctivitis, uveitis, chorioretinitis and retinal dysplasia. Such eye complications may occur: corneal ulcer, optic atrophy and blindness. Without special treatment 50-70% of babies will get central nervous system affection. Localized skin form often recurs during the first year of life. Herpes infections

Generalized form causes progressive impairment of clinical state of babies (regurgitation, apnea, changing of body temperature). Pathologic process includes liver and kidneys. It is noticed the increase of spleen, hypoglycemia, hyperbilirubinemia, herpes encephalomeningitis. Skin eruption comes on the 2nd-8th day from the beginning of disease, but 20% of babies don't have any blisters at all. Herpes medication

Central nervous system affection happens in 30% of cases. Development of clinical pictures is observed on the 2nd or 3rd week of life. Disease begins with rise in temperature, flabbiness, tremor, fall in appetite or convulsions. 40-60% of ill babies don't have specific skin eruption. Herpes lesions

Having all types of neonatal HSV, it is necessary to begin specific antiviral therapy, as localized form can be the reason of the disease generalization. Auspicious result may be reached by early prescription of antiviral therapy.

Acyclovir is the best medicine to cure such problems. Duration of treatment depends on the form of neonatal HSV and on the possible complications. Mostly it is given by injection. Of course, HSV can't be cured totally, but acyclovir helps to minimize symptoms and to avoid future damage.
