HSV can be transmitted by different ways (airborne, everyday and others), but genital HSV can happen almost only by sexual activity. What is more, among the sexually transmitted diseases, herpes is one of the most widely distributed ones.

Non-sexual genital herpes transmission
Patient with genital herpes is contagious, as a rule, only during disease outbreak and with visible symptoms. But the possibility of symptoms transmission is very high, even if you had a single contact with ill person. Nevertheless, very often sexual partners are contaminated by inactive carriers, that don't have any pictures. Mostly such carriers don't guess about the existence of it in their body, and, that's why, don't take any actions in order to secure their partners against contagion by HSV pictures.
